Wildlife Monitoring

Wildlife Monitoring on our Open Spaces

One of our key programmes is Wildlife Monitoring. Our dedicated volunteer Wildlife Monitors carry out a wide variety of surveys each year in collaboration with the Hampstead Heath's Conservation Team and Ecologists. The important information they gather helps form the basis of the Heath's conservation work plan, and informs the careful management of the key habitats here.

Volunteers currently get involved in these main surveys:

• Grass Snakes
• Butterflies
• Dragonflies
• Hedgehogs and other mammals
• Amphibians

Wildlife monitors also get involved in other projects such as Oak Processionary Moth surveys with the Heath's Tree Team, and the London Natural History Society Hampstead Heath Surveys.
